In some instances I have seen colleagues look incredibly uncomfortable at networking events whilst others are so in their element, you could mistake them for the host.

Networking might not be an activity on your Top 10 List: How to get a promotion, but perhaps it should. Especially as we now find ourselves in a hot desk, remote workplace environment.  

If you do work in a flexible organisation within a hot desk environment, the saying out of sight out of mind can ring true when it comes to being selected by your peers for important project work, promotions etc. 

Getting to know your colleagues at events, learning from them about their projects, future planning at any given opportunity will place you in good stead.  The Harvard Business Review article provides reasons to network and how to learn to love networking.
